It just happened, caught me by surprise and was totally unplanned. It was Sunday early morning, a nice sunny day, somewhat warm for 6 a.m. (considering it was September 1st) and Christine was on her first modeling assignment. We had been working for about 2 hours; I was trying to give instructions, asking her to bend her back, move toward me and so on. We had taken several rolls of film. I was just trying to capture waves coming in as they touched her body. Sometimes the waves would wash over her, but it was a gentle wash-over, most of the time the waves would just touch her. Then it just happened, this big wave they came in and she was gone for a few seconds and re-appeared as a wet, surprised and unhappy model. Of course being a thoughtful photographer, I keep shooting until the event was over and then attended to her (priories, priories). It took a few minutes before she recovered and we were back to work. I had always figured that it was one of those photographic gremlins that had become upset. You know the gremlin that can make a lens cap disappear or a cable release crawl off and hide. You see, she had cursed us, because just a few minutes earlier she had commented on the time and how happy she was, that she did not have to head back home to shower before she went to work that morning. Several things happened that day because of her comments, I lost two lens caps, a cable release, she needed an extra long shower, was 30 minutes late for work (I wonder what she told her boss) and according to Christine, it took about a week to get all the sand out. Good things, do happen to those who photograph......... Dennis |
